Zurich: Prof. Dr. Aju Paul Pazhenkottil, a distinguished cardiologist serving at University Hospital Zurich in Switzerland, continues to make his mark internationally through his notable achievements in cardiology and cardiac imaging. His contributions to the field of cardiac imaging at University Hospital Zurich have now earned him prestigious recognition in India.
The Department of Nuclear Medicine at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, honoured Prof. Pazhenkottil with an “Award of Honour”. The award was presented on September 19 during the department’s 37th Foundation Day celebrations. According to the citation on the award plaque, the honour recognises his pioneering contributions to cardiac imaging at University Hospital Zurich.
As part of the Foundation Day programme, Prof. Pazhenkottil also delivered a lecture titled “Beyond the Visible: Precision Cardiovascular Medicine through Imaging”. His presentation highlighted the emerging possibilities offered by advanced imaging technologies in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Prof. Pazhenkottil serves as a Senior Physician and Professor at University Hospital Zurich and is a cardiologist with expertise in advanced imaging modalities, including Cardiac CT, MRI, PET and SPECT. Combining clinical practice, research and teaching, his work has earned recognition in the specialised field of cardiac imaging.
Alongside his work in cardiovascular medicine, Prof. Pazhenkottil also holds a distinctive international responsibility. He has been appointed to the International Medical Committee of Lourdes, which medically evaluates extraordinary recoveries reported in Lourdes, France. The committee examines whether such recoveries can be explained on the basis of current medical knowledge. Detailed assessments of patients’ medical histories, treatment records and diagnostic findings form part of this rigorous evaluation process.
While advancing as a clinician and researcher in the complex field of modern cardiovascular medicine, Prof. Pazhenkottil’s involvement in such international responsibilities has also brought recognition to the Malayali community in Switzerland and across Europe.
Prof. Pazhenkottil is equally active in social and charitable initiatives. He is one of the founders of “Daanam”, a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting people and families facing financial hardship. Among its key priorities is providing assistance for the education and future development of children and students in need. Alongside his medical career, he remains actively involved in efforts to extend meaningful support to disadvantaged sections of society.
