Monaco: Former Indian athlete and coach Anju Bobby George has won this year's World Athletics Woman of the Year. Anju’s contributions have earned her this award even after retiring from the sport.
Anju Bobby George won a bronze medal in the long jump at the World Athletics Championships. She had established an Athletics Academy in Bangalore and has been training girls since 2016. She is the also Senior Vice President of the Indian Athletics Federation.
Anju is the only Indian athlete to reach the final of the World Athletics Championships in a row and the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games. Norway's Karsten Warholm and Jamaica's Elaine Thompson were named World Athletics Athletes of the Year, Male and Female respectively.
