Bhubaneswar : The Odisha government has shifted pregnant women to hospitals in villages prone to the cyclone Jawad. More than 400 women from different districts were shifted to the hospitals.
As many as 54,008 people have been evacuated from three districts as the cyclone is likely to reach the northern coast of Andhra Pradesh. People were evacuated due to the risk of landslides following the cyclone. The rescue team evacuated 15,755 people from Srikakulam district, 1,700 from Vijayanagar and 36,553 from Visakhapatnam.
A red alert has been declared in three districts of Andhra Pradesh as heavy rains are forecasted. The red alert was issued in the northern coastal districts of Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, and Vaishya Nagar districts of the state. Chief Minister YS Jagmohan Reddy has directed the people living in these areas to be extra vigilant.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagmohan Reddy held a review meeting with Collectors of cyclone-prone districts of Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari. The Chief Minister directed the officials to issue vigilance instructions to the people living along the coast and ensure that casualties are reported.
The state government has also opened 197 relief camps. Of these, 79 relief camps are in Srikakulam, 54 relief camps are in Vijayanagar and 64 are in Visakhapatnam. The Central Meteorological Department has warned that the cyclone will hit the Puri coast of Odisha this Sunday. The meteorological office warned that the cyclone would move in a north to north-westerly direction till Saturday morning and then return north to northeast direction and reach the Puri coast by tomorrow.
