Ukraine's major internet service disrupted by cyber attack

Kyiv : Ukraine's state owned telecommunications company Ukrtelecom experienced a disruption in internet service on Monday, after a powerful cyber attack, confirmed by Ukrainian government officials and company representatives. Ukrtelecom is restoring internet services after driving back a major cyber attack. The company said that it has restricted customer access to protect military users and critical infrastructure.

The incident is the latest hacking attack against Ukrainian internet services since the Russian invasion in the country. NetBlocks, the global internet monitor Tweeted earlier on Monday that it saw "connectivity collapsing with an ongoing and intensifying nation-scale disruption."

Ukrtelecom is the country's biggest provider of fixed internet in terms of geographical coverage, but second after Kyivstar in terms of number of clients.

"In order to protect the critical network infrastructure and not interrupt services to the Armed Forces, other military bodies and users of critical infrastructure, we were forced to temporarily restrict internet access to most private users and business customers," a company person briefed.
