Vatican City: Are you a Syro-Malabar dissident or obedient? Pope Francis questioned the Syro-Malabar clergy during a meeting with the seminary students of the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum on Wednesday in St. Peter's Square.
The Holy Father spoke again at the puzzled students, asking, "Are you obedient ones or the ones at war with your patriarch?" He spoke in Italian and gestured with his hands to indicate quarrelling.
When those around him and the students laughed, the pope lovingly told them, "You must obey your pastor, Mar Alencherry."
Pope Francis told in several occasions that the liturgical controversy in the Syro-Malabar Church is deeply disturbing. He also said during a meeting with members of the Pontifical Liturgical Institute this month that those who revolt over worship cannot actually worship God.
The Pope spoke with the students of Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum Athenaea, s Jose Etakkal, Christy Chiriankandam, Tijo Matappallil and Eldos Cariyelil.
The Faithful hope and believe that the repeated Exhortations of the Holy Father to bear obedience to the head of the Syro-Malabar Church will inspire unity in the Community.
The Pope also referred to the head of the Major Archiepiscopal Syro-Malabar Church, as the Patriarch, when he said the words ‘fa guerra’ Patriarch, not Archbishop or Cardinal.
