US provides Internet access to Iranians

US is moving forward with such an action in the context of protests over the killing of Mahsa Amini, who was detained by Iran's morality police for allegedly not wearing the headscarf properly.

It is reported that around 50 people have been killed in the protests taking place in different parts of the country.

Following popular protests, Iran cut off internet connections in the capital Tehran and Kurdistan province. The use of social media such as WhatsApp and Instagram is also prohibited.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said: "We will help ensure that the people of Iran are not isolated and kept in the dark." The US said the move would help counter the Iranian government's efforts to monitor and censor its people.

Elon Musk responded to Blinken's announcement. He said on Twitter that he would activate his satellite internet firm Starlink to provide internet services to Iran.

There are also speculations that easing Iran's internet restrictions could also be an opportunity for American tech companies to expand their business in Iran.

There are also reports that Iranian police have arrested 700 people in one province alone during protests that have continued for more than a week.
The protests started in the northwestern regions, but have now spread to about eighty cities in Iran.

Before this, in 2019, there was such a big protest against the increase in petrol prices in Iran.

Last week, a twenty-two-year-old woman named Mahsa Amini was arrested by religious police in Tehran and later died while being treated in an unconscious state.

The cause of death is reported to be a head injury. The witness had revealed that the police brutally beat the woman. He died three days after being beaten up by the police and in a coma. The Iranian government has launched an investigation into the incident.
