Gas station blast at Ireland; Death toll rises to 10

Ireland: 10 people died in a fire at a petrol station in Ireland. Eight people were seriously burnt. The incident took place in the village of Crieslaff, County Donegal. The fire that broke out at the gas station spread to a two-story apartment building nearby. Among the dead are a schoolgirl and two teenagers.

The building was completely destroyed in the fire, the injured were brought out through rescue operations carried out throughout the night by the emergency services including the fire department.

The blast took place at 3.20 pm on Friday. Then the fire spread to the adjacent apartments, increasing the casualties. Some buildings collapsed. Business establishments, including the post office, were destroyed. Three people were confirmed dead on Friday. The injured were taken to hospital by helicopters.

The cause of the explosion is not clear. Police said they have started an investigation. Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin expressed his condolences over the incident.
