Australia: Twenty-20 World Cup started today in Australia. Qualifying round matches between West Indies and Sri Lanka began now. India-Pakistan matche on October 23rd. 16 teams are competing for the world title on Australian soil. Four teams will reach the Super Twelve from the eight-team group stage.
India, the first-time champions, will try hard to get back the old title . We have to wait and see if the Indian team led by lucky captain Rohit Sharma will lift the cup this time
Australia and England, the hosts, are also leading the race for the title. New Zealand and South Africa are strong teams. Pakistan, who are in great form, are also very strong. Matches are held from 9.30 am, 1.30 pm and 4.30 pm. And the final match is on November 13th.
The winner will take home a whopping prize money of USD 1.6 million. The eight teams who exit at the Super 12 stage will receive USD 70,000 each. A win in each of the 30 games in the Super 12 phase will be worth USD 40,000.
Overall, a sum of $5.6 million will be allocated for the tournament which will be shared by all the 16 participating teams.
