Sheikh Mohammed offer condolences at the demise of Dr. Joseph Muscat Baron

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai mourned the death of pioneering Physician Dr. Joseph Muscat Baron.

Sheikh Mohammed Tweeted; “Today, Dubai mourns Dr. Joseph Muscat Baron, an inspiring physician whose medical services had touched the lives of so many people. He would always be remembered for his knowledge, compassion and dedication. He was indeed one of the many caring hearts of Dubai.”



Dr. Baron was the head of General Medicine department at Rashid Hospital and was at the forefront to establish Dubai Women’s Medical College in 1988.

Born in 1934, Dr. Baron completed his studies in Saint Luke University in Malta and migrated to UK in 1960, where he studied medicine and served in the health services for 17 years, before arriving in UAE in 1977.

He established the department of General Medicine at Rashid Hospital. He had also contributed to the establishment of cardiology, pulmonology and gastroenterology as specialties at Dubai and Rashid Hospitals.

He became the head of the Pharmaceutical Committee that published the first pharmaceutical reference book in the region.

Dr. Baron was awarded with the Hamdan Award, as part of Honouring Individuals Working in the Field of Medicine and Health, by the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Services.
