"Various excerpts" of source code leaked online, legal filing by twitter reveals

A legal filing revealed that Twitter Inc. is looking for information on the person who leaked some of the social media platform's source code. Twitter Inc. is owned by billionaire Elon Musk.

The filing claims that a user going by the name of "FreeSpeechEnthusiast" posted "various excerpts" of the source code for the software that powers Twitter on Github, a website owned by Microsoft that allows developers to share their code.

Upon Twitter's request, GitHub claimed to have removed the code on Friday.

According to the March 24 filing, Twitter has requested that the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California order Github produce "all identifying information" connected to the user name "FreeSpeechEnthusiast."

An inquiry from Reuters about whether Github had provided such information was not immediately answered by the company. As for how long Twitter's source code had been accessible to the general public, it made no mention of that either.

An inquiry for comments was also not promptly answered by Twitter.

The New York Times was the first outlet to break the news.
