New Delhi: Tech giant Google has unveiled a new artificial intelligence powered feature called Flight Deals, aimed at helping travellers secure the cheapest available air tickets. The service, currently in its beta stage, is designed especially for those with flexible travel plans, making it easier to explore affordable options without the hassle of endless manual searches.
The new tool can be accessed either directly through a dedicated webpage or via the top-left menu within Google Flights. Unlike the conventional search method, Flight Deals introduces a conversational chatbot interface where users simply type in their travel preferences, and the AI handles the rest. The company notes that the system relies on advanced AI believed to be built on its Gemini model to understand user inputs and match them with real-time flight data.
The product was first announced during Google I/O in May and marks another expansion of the company’s shopping and lifestyle-focused tools. According to Google, Flight Deals caters to “flexible travellers whose number one goal is saving money on their next trip.” At present, the feature is being gradually rolled out in select regions including the United States, Canada, and India. However, some users have reported that the dedicated webpage remains inactive in certain areas.
What sets this service apart is its ability to handle broader, more creative prompts instead of rigid inputs. For example, travellers can request a “week-long trip this winter to a city with great food, nonstop only,” or a “10-day ski trip to a world-class resort with fresh powder.” In both cases, the AI interprets the preferences, searches across multiple booking platforms, and returns the most cost-effective options.
While Flight Deals is clearly geared toward travellers who are open to changing destinations, dates, or airlines, it remains unclear how well the tool will perform when dealing with more rigid requirements such as fixed departure dates or specific destinations. Still, industry watchers believe the new feature could transform how travellers approach flight planning, reducing both the time spent searching and the cost of booking.
With the introduction of this AI-driven travel assistant, Google is signaling its ambition to become a key player not only in information search but also in real-world decision-making tools that shape consumer experiences.
