Chandigarh - "Government offices in Punjab to operate on revised timings to reduce electricity load during summers"
Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, has announced that starting from 2nd May, all government offices in the state will operate from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm instead of the current 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The decision was taken following discussions with various stakeholders, including state government employees. In a video message, Mann stated that he will also be reaching his office at 7:30 am. This new office timing will be in effect until 15th July.
The chief minister emphasized that the change in office timings during summers will help reduce the load on electricity demand, citing that the peak load of electricity starts after 1:30 pm. The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited has estimated that the new office timings will help in reducing peak load by 300 to 350 MW.
