New Delhi: OpenAI has introduced its most affordable subscription plan, ChatGPT Go, exclusively for the Indian market. Priced at ₹399 per month (approximately $4.57), the new plan is aimed at expanding the company’s reach in one of its fastest-growing user bases.
The ChatGPT Go plan sits between the free tier and higher-priced options like ChatGPT Plus at ₹1,999 per month and Pro at ₹19,900 per month. It is designed to attract students, freelancers, and professionals who find the free plan restrictive but do not require the advanced features of higher tiers.
Compared to the free version, ChatGPT Go offers ten times more access for messages, image generation, and file uploads. It also provides double the memory capacity for longer conversations, larger file uploads, and enhanced data analytics. The plan is powered by OpenAI’s latest GPT-5 model, which supports local Indian languages and personalization features.
One of the most notable changes is the introduction of Indian rupee pricing across all subscription plans, replacing the earlier dollar-based pricing system. OpenAI has also enabled payments through UPI, India’s most widely used digital payments network, making subscriptions easier and more accessible for local users.
India is OpenAI’s second-largest market after the United States, and the company has highlighted its rapid growth in the country. OpenAI officials have suggested that India could soon surpass the United States in terms of user base. By launching a budget-friendly option, OpenAI aims to strengthen its footprint in emerging markets and broaden access to artificial intelligence tools.
The rollout of ChatGPT Go will initially be limited to India, but OpenAI is expected to consider expanding the plan to other regions depending on its success.
With its mix of affordability, accessibility, and advanced features, ChatGPT Go represents a strategic step by OpenAI to democratize AI access and cater to a wider audience in India’s booming digital economy.
