Ukraine's Air Defenses Intercept and Destroy 15 of 18 Missiles Launched at Night

Kyiv - According to the Ukrainian military, 15 of the 18 missiles fired by Russian forces were destroyed by Ukrainian air defense crews in the early hours of Monday morning. This comes as Moscow has increased its attacks on Ukraine in recent days.

Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, the commander-in-chief of Ukraine's armed forces, posted on his Telegram channel that the attack from strategic aviation planes occurred around 2:30 am (1130 GMT).

Kyiv's city officials reported on the Telegram messaging app that all missiles aimed at the capital had been destroyed, out of the 18 missiles launched. This was the second attack on the city within three days. The city administration stated that based on preliminary information, there were no reported casualties among civilians, and there was no damage to residential buildings or infrastructure.

Officials stated that air defense systems were deployed to protect the Kyiv region, which is a separate administrative entity from the city, from incoming Russian missiles.

Russia also launched missiles at other regions in Ukraine overnight, including Dnipropetrovsk, according to Mykola Lukashuk, the head of the Dnipro region council. While seven missiles were intercepted by air defense crews, 25 people required medical assistance.

The city of Pavlohrad in eastern Ukraine was hit twice during the night, resulting in damage to an industrial enterprise, 19 apartment buildings, and 25 private buildings. Lukashuk also reported fires, with emergency services currently responding to the situation.

Late on Sunday, Vladimir Rogov, an official in the Russian-backed administration of the Zaporizhzhia region, shared images and videos of fires in Pavlohrad, claiming that Russian forces targeted military sites there. Russia has stated that some of their recent attacks are aimed at obstructing Kyiv's plans for a counteroffensive in the eastern region.
