KYIV -On Friday, a clinic in the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro was struck by a Russian missile, resulting in the loss of two lives and causing injuries to 30 individuals. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the attack as a heinous act against humanity. Video footage depicted a severely damaged building emitting smoke, while rescue workers were present at the scene. The upper floor of the apparent three-storey structure had suffered extensive destruction. A deceased person covered with a sheet was observed lying on the nearby road.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed his outrage on Twitter, denouncing the recent missile attack as another act of crime against humanity. He revealed that both a psychological clinic and a veterinary clinic had been targeted, emphasizing that only a malevolent state would engage in such attacks on healthcare facilities. He asserted that there could be no military justification for this act, characterizing it as a manifestation of pure Russian terror.
According to Serhiy Lysak, the regional governor, a 69-year-old man lost his life while passing by the clinic, and the remains of another man were recovered from the debris caused by the attack.
President Zelenskiy said that the missile strike caused injuries to 30 individuals, including two children, and there were concerns about the well-being of three people who were believed to have been inside the targeted building but remained unaccounted for.
The Defence Ministry of Ukraine characterized the attack as a severe violation of the Geneva Conventions, which outline the proper treatment of soldiers and civilians during times of armed conflict. The ministry classified the incident as a significant war crime, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the principles established in the Geneva Conventions regarding the treatment of individuals in war.
Russia's Defense Ministry claimed responsibility for conducting an overnight strike on Ukrainian ammunition depots. According to the RIA news agency, the ministry stated that the intended targets had been successfully hit, fulfilling their objectives.
In response to allegations of war crimes and deliberate targeting of civilians, Moscow has denied such accusations and maintains that its actions are not aimed at harming non-combatants. However, since the invasion that took place 15 months ago, Russian forces have carried out bombardments on various cities throughout Ukraine.
Earlier on the same day, Moscow accused Ukraine of launching a rocket and a drone attack on two regions in southern Russia. However, the missile was reportedly intercepted and shot down.
According to Ukraine, they successfully intercepted and shot down 10 missiles and over 20 drones launched by Russia in overnight attacks targeting various areas including Dnipro, Kyiv, and eastern regions.
The office of President Zelenskiy reported that a fire had erupted on the outskirts of Kharkiv, a northeastern city, as a result of two hits on an oil depot. The attacks caused damage to equipment used for pumping oil products.
A senior military intelligence official stated that Russia has shifted its focus from targeting energy infrastructure to disrupting Ukrainian preparations for a counterattack. The official highlighted that recent missile strikes have increasingly been directed at military facilities and supplies, indicating a change in tactics.
