New Delhi - The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) has called for July 2 to be designated as a day of prayer for peace in Manipur.
They have urged churches, Catholic institutions, religious houses, and organizations throughout the country to observe this day by conducting special prayers and dedicating at least one hour of divine mercy worship to the impoverished and suffering people of Manipur.
CBCI President and Thrissur Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath has made a request to include prayers for peace and harmony in Manipur during the Holy Mass.
The CBCI has also suggested various activities to show solidarity with the people of Manipur, such as organizing candle processions or peace rallies, spreading the Church's message of peace, encouraging organizations and NGOs to voice their concerns to the central government regarding the unconstitutional situation in Manipur, treating refugees, including those from Manipur, with compassion, and making a commitment to peace in all Church institutions.
The CBCI has informed that Caritas India, a charitable organization of the Catholic Church, has been providing significant assistance to the victims in Manipur.
They have already aided 14,000 individuals and have developed long-term plans to rehabilitate the homeless and promote peace and coexistence among communities. The CBCI has appealed to Church institutions to support Caritas India in their efforts.
