New Delhi - In the aftermath of an all-political party meeting dedicated to addressing the turmoil in Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a crucial round of discussions with Chief Minister N Biren Singh in New Delhi on June 25. The urgency of the situation prompted the Chief Minister to promptly leave Imphal for the national capital, boarding a charter flight at approximately 11:55 am, as he had been summoned by the Union Home Minister, according to a source close to him.
Upon reaching Delhi, Biren Singh, accompanied by BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Leisemba Sanajaoba, and Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Satyabrata Singh, convened with the Union Home Minister. The primary objective of the meeting was to discuss the latest developments in the violence-stricken state and evaluate the ground situation. The Chief Minister provided a comprehensive overview of the prevailing conditions to the Home Minister, highlighting the need for immediate steps to restore normalcy.
Following the meeting, Chief Minister Biren Singh took to Facebook to share details of the discussion. He emphasized that during the meeting, he had apprised the Union Home Minister of the evolving situation on the ground in Manipur. Biren Singh expressed his gratitude for Amit Shah's close supervision, noting that as a result of joint efforts between the state and central government, the violence had been significantly contained over the past week. Importantly, there had been no reports of casualties due to the violence since June 13, providing a glimmer of hope amidst the unrest.
Biren Singh further conveyed that the Union Home Minister had assured him that the central government was fully committed to taking all possible measures to restore peace and stability in Manipur. Amit Shah, recognizing the importance of lasting peace, advised the Chief Minister to intensify their collective efforts towards achieving this objective. He also sought the cooperation of all stakeholders in Manipur, stressing the significance of their involvement in ensuring that peace prevails throughout the state.
The meeting between the Union Home Minister and the Manipur Chief Minister took place subsequent to an all-party meeting organized by the central government in Delhi on June 24, chaired by Amit Shah. This larger gathering provided a platform for political representatives from various parties to discuss the ongoing turmoil in Manipur.
Having concluded the meeting, Chief Minister Biren Singh was scheduled to return to Imphal late that night, aiming to implement the strategies and measures discussed during his meeting with the Union Home Minister.
