Jeddah —In early August, Saudi Arabia is set to host a peace summit organized by Ukraine, aiming to initiate negotiations over Russia's war on the country, according an official as reported by AP news. The kingdom and Kyiv did not immediately acknowledge the planned talks.
The summit, planned to be held in Jeddah, will include participants from Ukraine, Brazil, India, South Africa, and other countries.
An official from U.S. President Joe Biden's administration is also expected to attend. Russia has not been invited, and the talks will be overseen by Kyiv.
The summit details are still uncertain, and specific dates for the talks have not been provided by the official source. According to The Wall Street Journal, which initially reported on the summit, it is expected to occur on August 5 and 6. Approximately 30 countries are said to be attending, as stated by "diplomats involved in the discussion."
The summit is intended to be a continuation of the discussions that were held in Copenhagen back in June. However, further information and confirmation are yet to be disclosed by the involved parties.
The summit comes after U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan's recent visit to Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia's decision to host the talks is significant, given its close relationship with Russia through the OPEC+ group.
