St. Anastasius IX was a hermit and the bishop of Ter in Italy. Anastasius is thought to have been a Syr who settled down to live by himself close to Perugia, Italy. Although his identity may be a little unclear, records show that he was also made a bishop. He passed away in 553. He entered Roman Martyrology in 1518. His feast day is celebrated on August 17.
