Once upon a time, in the city of Babylon, lived a man named Daniel. He had arrived in Babylon with his friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Their reputation for honesty and hard work earned them the favor of every king who ruled the land, much to the envy of their fellow workers.
One day, King Darius recognized Daniel's exceptional qualities and appointed him as the leader of the entire country. However, some of the king's other servants were not pleased with this decision and devised a plan to discredit Daniel in the hopes of getting him fired.
Despite their efforts to find faults in Daniel's behavior, they couldn't discover anything amiss. Daniel's unwavering commitment to God kept him on the right path. Frustrated, these schemers decided to propose a law that forbade anyone from praying to any god except King Darius. They approached King Darius, saying, "O great king, you are so magnificent that everyone should worship only you. We've consulted your other workers, and they all agree that it should be a law. Anyone found praying to any other god should be thrown into the lions' den." They lied, claiming that all the king's workers supported this idea, even though they hadn't consulted Daniel because they knew he wouldn't comply. Unaware of their deceit, King Darius agreed to the law, and it became irrevocable.
When Daniel learned of this new law, he didn't waver. He continued his daily routine, praying to God three times a day as he always had.
The schemers caught Daniel praying fervently to God, and they rushed to the king, reporting, "King, we caught Daniel disobeying your decree. We witnessed him praying to his God three times today."
King Darius was deeply saddened by this news, as he held Daniel in high regard. He attempted to change the law but was reminded that it could not be altered, and Daniel would have to face the consequences. As the day ended, the king reluctantly ordered Daniel to be thrown into the lions' den. He said to Daniel, "I hope your God, whom you serve and pray to, will save you!"
A large stone was rolled in front of the den, and the king returned to his palace, his eyes filled with tears. That night, consumed with worry for Daniel, he couldn't eat or sleep. At dawn, the king hurried to the lions' den and called out, "Daniel, has your God, whom you serve and pray to, saved you from the lions?" He anxiously awaited a response.
Suddenly, Daniel's voice echoed from the depths of the den, "O king, live forever! My God sent an angel who closed the mouths of the lions. They did not harm me because I have done no wrong."
Overjoyed, the king ordered that Daniel be lifted from the den. To everyone's amazement, not a single scratch marred Daniel's body, for he had placed his trust in God. Recognizing the schemers' deception, King Darius delivered justice, and they faced punishment for their treachery. King Darius made a new decree, declaring, "Daniel's God is truly great, and I command that everyone in my kingdom should honor and respect the Lord God, who rescued Daniel from the hungry lions.
