Thiruvananthapuram - Renowned filmmaker KG George has passed away at the age of late seventies. His health had been declining since suffering a stroke a few years ago, and tragically, he breathed his last on Sunday. The funeral of KG George is expected to take place on Tuesday.
Following the news of his demise, numerous celebrities and politicians expressed their condolences on social media.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan praised KG George, stating, "KG George was a filmmaker who endeared himself to the audience by addressing socially relevant issues. His distinctive approach involved dissecting both societal structures and individual minds."
"KG George made groundbreaking contributions that blurred the lines between artistic and commercial cinema, significantly elevating the quality and enjoyment of films. He directed several unforgettable movies," he added.
Mammootty, who collaborated with KG George on films like "Mela" (1980) and "Yavanika" (1982), paid tribute on Facebook, saying, "One more person who was close to the heart bids goodbye. Condolences George Sir."
Swaroop Kaimal, on X (formerly Twitter), expressed his condolences, writing, "Thank you, Sir, for everything."
Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran also offered his heartfelt condolences. On Instagram Story, he shared a picture of KG George and wrote, "Rest in peace, sir! One of the finest filmmakers of the country bids adieu."
KG George received accolades for his work, including Kerala State Film Awards for movies like "Yavanika," "Swapnadanam," "Adaminte Vaariyellu," and "Iraka." His 1984 film "Panchavadi Palam" is considered one of the most remarkable political satire films in Malayalam cinema.
KG George is survived by his wife Selma George, son Arun, and daughter Thara.
