Hangzhou: India added eight medals to its kitty on day six of the Asian Games 2023. India bagged five medals in shooting, including two gold and three silver medals. Other medals came from events like shotput, tennis and squash.
India also bagged its first medal in Asian Games Athletics today. Winning the bronze, Kiran Baliyan made history as the medal comes to India in the event after 72 long years.
While 24-year-old Kiran bagged the bronze with a throw of 17.36m, India's another contestant Manpreet Kaur finished fifth with a throw of 16.25m.
China's Olympic gold medalist Gong Lijiao clinched her third straight gold in the Asian Games with a throw of 19.58m while China's own Jiayuan Song won the silver for her 18.92m long throw.
India won two gold medals and three silver medals in shooting, taking the day's medal tally to eight. Two golds of the day include the one in men's 50m pistol 3 position team event, and another in women's 10m air pistol individual event.
India's five-medal haul in shooting includes a silver in the men's 50m pistol 3-position individual event and a silver each in the women's 10m air pistol team event and individual event categories.
Indian hopes for gold in tennis doubles were overturned after Saket Maineni - Ramkumar Ramanathan lost the finals to Chinese Taipei pair for straight sets. Score: 6-4, 6-4. The pair won silver.
With this, till the sixth day, India has won 33 medals including 8 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze.
