Vizianagaram : A tragic accident in Vizianagaram of Andra Pradesh occurred when two passenger trains collided, resulting in the loss of eight lives and causing injuries to 20 individuals. The collision involved the Visakhapatnam Palasa and Visakhapatnam Rayagada passenger trains. It is suspected that the collision may have been a result of error or the failure to adhere to a signal, by the Visakhapatnam Rayagada train.
Local authorities promptly initiated rescue operations with assistance from accident relief trains, NDRF personnel and ambulances arriving at the site. Supervising the rescue efforts is DRM Saurabh Prasad.
The East Central Railway issued a statement explaining that several coaches derailed as a result of the collision and efforts are currently underway for rescue and restoration.
Indian Railways has provided numbers for families of victims and affected passengers in light of this incident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences. Held discussions with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to assess the situation.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock over this incident. Ordered relief measures along with medical services for those affected.
The East Coast Railway (ECoR) suggested that human error, failure to adhere to a signal may have been responsible, for this collision. The accident resulted in 13 deaths and 50 injuries. As, per the explanation provided by the ECoR CPRO overshooting happens when a train fails to halt at a signal.
At present efforts are being made to rescue and assist those impacted by the collision. Accident relief trains and helpline numbers are in operation, for this purpose.
