KUALA LUMPUR- Malaysia is set to introduce visa-free entry for Chinese and Indian citizens, allowing stays of up to 30 days starting from December 1, as revealed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during a speech at the People's Justice Party congress.
The duration of the visa exemption was not specified. China and India rank as Malaysia's fourth and fifth-largest tourist markets, contributing to a total of 9.16 million arrivals between January and June this year.
In comparison to pre-pandemic figures from 2019, the country witnessed a significant increase in tourism from these nations.
The move mirrors Thailand's efforts to revitalize its tourism sector and boost economic activity, with both countries exempting Chinese and Indian nationals from visa requirements this year.
Currently, Chinese and Indian citizens are required to apply for visas to enter Malaysia.
