Pope Francis to Lead Holy Thursday Mass at Rome’s Rebibbia Prison

Pope Francis is set to conduct the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at Rome’s Rebibbia women’s prison on Holy Thursday. The announcement, made by the Prefecture of the Papal Household, reveals that the papal Mass will take place on March 28, marking the commencement of the Easter Triduum.

Scheduled for 4 PM, this private visit will see Pope Francis meeting with both female inmates and staff members of the facility. During the Mass, traditionally known as “in Coena Domini,” Pope will perform the symbolic act of washing the feet of several individuals, echoing Jesus' gesture towards his disciples on the eve of His crucifixion.

This isn't the first time Pope Francis has chosen Rebibbia prison for Holy Thursday celebrations; he previously conducted Mass there in 2015. However, this year's event will remain closed to the general public, maintaining a more intimate atmosphere.
