Russia and Ukraine exchanged a series of attacks involving drones, missiles, and shelling on Sunday. Ukrainian strikes on the partly Russian-occupied Donetsk region resulted in at least two deaths, according to Russian state media. In the eastern front line, Russia announced it had seized control of two villages: Pishchane Nizhne in the Kharkiv region and Andriivka (also known as Rozivka) in the Luhansk region. Ukrainian shelling in the Donetsk region led to two fatalities in the village of Horlivka, as reported by Russian state agency RIA Novosti.
In southern Ukraine's partly occupied Kherson region, local officials reported that three people were injured by Russian drone strikes. In the northeast, two people were wounded in the Kharkiv region due to Russian shelling.
Overnight, Ukraine's air defenses intercepted 35 out of 39 drones launched by Russia, according to air force commander Mykola Oleschuk. Additionally, three ballistic missiles and two guided air missiles launched by Russia failed to reach their targets. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that its forces had captured two villages: Pishchane Nizhne in the Kharkiv region and Andriivka in the Luhansk region. Kyiv has yet to comment on these claims.
Officials in the northern Sumy region reported a Russian missile strike on critical infrastructure in the city of Shostka, specifically targeting two heating facilities. Mayor Mykola Noha urged residents to conserve electricity and stock up on water.
Both sides in the conflict, now in its third year, have focused on infrastructure targets, seeking to undermine each other's combat capabilities. Russian air defense systems destroyed eight drones over the Belgorod region and the Black Sea overnight. Additionally, Russian air defense shot down two long-range ballistic ATACMS missiles over the Kherson region aimed at Russia-annexed Crimea, according to Russia-installed Kherson governor Vladimir Saldo.
In the Belgorod region, nine people were injured from shelling in the town of Shebekino, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported on Sunday morning.
