Mix-Up with Refreshments for Himachal CM Sparks Controversy, CID Probe Labels it an

A minor mix-up involving samosas and cakes intended for Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has snowballed into a major controversy, leading to a probe by the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID). During CM Sukhu’s recent visit to the CID headquarters, the refreshments ordered for him were mistakenly served to his security staff, a misstep that has now drawn scrutiny and political backlash.

The incident occurred after three boxes of snacks were ordered from the Radisson Blue Hotel in Shimla’s Lakkar Bazaar to be served to the Chief Minister. According to an inquiry conducted by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), an IG-ranked officer had directed a sub-inspector (SI) to arrange snacks for the CM. The SI then instructed an assistant SI (ASI) and a head constable to retrieve the food, but confusion arose when the tourism department staff reportedly indicated that the snacks were not on the CM’s official menu.

Unaware that these boxes were specifically intended for the CM, the ASI and head constable handed the refreshments to a lady inspector, who subsequently redirected them to the Mechanical Transport (MT) section, where refreshments for staff are usually placed. As a result, the snacks ended up with the Chief Minister's security team instead of him.

The CID’s investigation has since raised questions about the motivations behind the miscommunication. A senior CID official’s report suggests that those involved may have acted with "anti-CID" and "anti-government" intentions, suggesting a possible agenda behind the mishap. This note has amplified the incident, raising concerns about coordination lapses within government departments.

The incident has also stirred the state’s political landscape, with the opposition BJP seizing the opportunity to criticize the ruling Congress government. Randhir Sharma, BJP’s chief spokesperson, commented, “The state government seems less focused on development and more preoccupied with the Chief Minister’s samosa.” Sharma added that the inquiry’s labeling of the incident as "anti-government" is indicative of deeper coordination issues within the government.

As scrutiny intensifies, political circles in Himachal Pradesh are abuzz with discussions, leaving the administration to address the fallout of this unexpected “samosa scandal.”
