New Delhi: Farmers are set to march towards the Parliament complex on Monday to press for their key demands, leading to increased security arrangements and traffic diversions across the Delhi-NCR region. The Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) leader Sukhbir Khalifa announced that the march aims to demand compensation and benefits under the amended agricultural laws. Starting at noon from the Mahamaya Flyover, the rally will proceed toward Delhi with participants traveling on foot and by tractor. Farmers from 20 districts, including Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, and Agra, are expected to join the protest.
The farmers' demands include increased compensation of 64.7% and allocation of 10% of plots under old acquisition laws, compensation at four times the market rate with 20% of plots allocated for land acquired after January 1, 2014, employment and rehabilitation benefits for the children of landless farmers, implementation of government orders issued by the High-Power Committee, and the proper settlement of densely populated areas impacted by land acquisition.
To ensure public safety and manage traffic, the police have installed barricades and stepped up security checks at key locations such as Chilla, the DND border, and the Mahamaya Flyover. Checkpoints have been set up on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, and several routes have been diverted. Vehicles heading from Chilla Border to Greater Noida, DND Border to Delhi, and Kalindi Border to Delhi have been redirected, while the movement of goods vehicles has been restricted from the Yamuna Expressway to Delhi via the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Additional alternative routes have been arranged for traffic coming from other directions.
Farmers have been protesting in different locations, including at the Greater Noida Authority on November 27 and at the Yamuna Authority from November 28 to December 1. Meanwhile, other farmer organizations, such as the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the Samyukt Kisan Morcha, are planning marches from December 6 to advocate for demands like a guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops.
