Switzerland: The European Broadcasting Union (EBU), a leading association of public service broadcasters and co-founded by Vatican Radio, is preparing for its 93rd General Assembly in Lausanne, Switzerland. The gathering, set to take place on December 5-6 at the Millennium Conference Centre, will address critical governance matters, including the election of nine new members to the EBU Executive Board for the 2025-2026 term.
A key highlight of the Assembly will be the unveiling of the EBU Compass, a strategic initiative designed to safeguard the independence of public media against political and economic challenges. The project builds on insights shared during the EBU’s summer session in July 2024 in Limassol, Cyprus.
The event will also coincide with the second edition of the AI Summit, dedicated to exploring artificial intelligence's role in broadcasting and media. Scheduled for December 6, the summit will feature prominent speakers such as Daren Tang, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO); Federico Suria, Microsoft’s Head of Telco and Media Divisions for Europe and the Middle East; and historian and technology expert Yuval Noah Harari. The AI Summit will welcome over 400 participants from 44 countries, with sessions accessible to all EBU members and extended programming available to General Assembly delegates.
Vatican Radio, represented by Alessandro Gisotti, Deputy Editorial Director of the Dicastery for Communication, will actively participate in the General Assembly. The broadcaster's involvement highlights the importance of collaboration between traditional media and emerging technologies, especially in the context of global events like the upcoming Jubilee, which will command the attention of EBU-affiliated networks worldwide.
Founded in 1950 and headquartered in Geneva, the EBU unites 112 public broadcasters from 56 countries, alongside 31 associate members. As a global leader in public service media, the organization champions the production and distribution of high-quality content while fostering technological innovation across the industry.
