Storm Darragh forces Everton Liverpool cancellation

The Premier League match between Everton and Liverpool has been postponed due to extreme weather conditions, as confirmed by Everton on Saturday. The Merseyside derby, initially scheduled for that day at Goodison Park, marks the first English top-flight game affected by Storm Darragh.

The postponement decision was made after a safety advisory group meeting, which involved officials from both clubs, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council. The group concluded that the risk posed by strong winds and the ongoing amber wind warning, lasting until 6 a.m. Sunday, made it unsafe to proceed with the match.

Merseyside Police had earlier recommended that residents avoid non-essential travel until conditions improved. Liverpool expressed their understanding of the disappointment for fans, stressing that safety is the top priority, and assured that details about rescheduling the match, including ticketing, would be provided soon.

This derby was particularly significant as it was set to be the last Premier League encounter at Goodison Park before Everton’s move at the end of the season. Other games, including two Championship fixtures (Plymouth Argyle vs. Oxford United and Cardiff City vs. Watford), were also postponed due to the storm.

Liverpool is next set to face Girona in a Champions League match on Tuesday, while Everton will travel to Arsenal next Saturday for their next league fixture.
