Boston: A satanic statue placed near the Nativity scene at the New Hampshire State House has been removed after being damaged in several attacks. The controversial figure was displayed in a public area near the State House in Concord, Boston, sparking concerns that a similar statue might be erected again. Reed Ellen, a member of the Satanic Temple and Democratic representative from Newmarket, is reportedly planning to install a new statue in the same location.
The black demonic statue, featuring a goat's head and dressed in a priestly robe with a turban-like cloth, was erected last Saturday by members of the Satanic Temple. In its right hand, the statue held the state flower, the lilac, while in its left hand, it grasped an apple—symbolizing the fall of Adam and Eve, as described in the Book of Genesis. The statue, which had been shattered in the attacks, was removed three days later, on Tuesday.
Although the display had been permitted by the city, Mayor Byron Champlin voiced his opposition. At a city council meeting on Monday, he stated that the permission granted for the statue was not intended to promote religious equality but was instead part of a broader effort by some to push an anti-religious political agenda. The statue was installed after the local Knights of Columbus had previously displayed a nativity scene in the city plaza.
