Vatican City: Pope Francis had a restful night and was uplifted by heartfelt drawings from young patients at Gemelli Hospital, where he remains under medical care for a respiratory infection, the Holy See Press Office reported.
Matteo Bruni, Director of the Holy See Press Office, provided an update on the Pope’s health on Tuesday around 1:00 PM, assuring journalists that “the night passed peacefully.” He shared that the Holy Father woke up feeling well, had breakfast, and spent his morning reading newspapers, as is his daily habit. Further medical updates are expected in the evening.
Pope Francis has been hospitalized since Friday following a prolonged bout of bronchitis. A statement from the Vatican on Monday confirmed that he remains fever-free and continues with his prescribed treatment.
Due to his ongoing recovery, Pope Francis will not preside over the Mass for the Jubilee of Deacons, scheduled for Sunday, February 23. Instead, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, will lead the celebration in St. Peter’s Basilica.
Despite his hospitalization, Pope Francis has been moved by the outpouring of support. Alongside numerous well-wishes, he has received drawings and messages from children in the pediatric oncology unit. The Holy See noted that the Pope is “deeply touched by the affection and closeness” expressed by so many.
As he continues to recover, the Holy Father remains in the prayers of the faithful worldwide.
