Pope Francis’ Condition Remains Stable as He Receives Visit from Italian Prime Minister

The Holy See Press Office has confirmed that Pope Francis' clinical condition remains stable as he continues treatment in the hospital. In its latest update on Wednesday evening, 19 February, the Vatican reported a slight improvement in Pope’s inflammatory indices, as indicated by blood test results evaluated by medical staff.

Despite his condition, Pope maintained his daily routine, spending the morning reading newspapers and working alongside his closest collaborators. Before lunch, he received the Eucharist.

In the afternoon, Pope Francis welcomed Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who visited him to extend well wishes on behalf of the Italian Government and the nation. Their private meeting lasted 20 minutes. Following the visit, Meloni expressed her satisfaction at finding Pope “alert and responsive,” noting that they shared a lighthearted moment. “We joked as always. He has not lost his well-known sense of humor,” she remarked.

Earlier in the day, the Vatican reported that Pope had a restful night and was able to sit up in an armchair, indicating progress in his recovery.
