Pope Francis' health condition remains stable as he continues treatment for pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, according to an update from the Holy See Press Office on Friday evening.
Pope, who was admitted on February 14, spent the day resting and in prayer while undergoing medical care, including respiratory physiotherapy. His treatment involves non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night and high-flow oxygen therapy during the day via nasal cannula.
In the morning, Pope Francis spent about 20 minutes in prayer in the chapel on the tenth floor of the hospital, where his room is located. He also engaged in some work-related activities throughout the day. Doctors have described his condition as stable, though still complex, and the prognosis remains guarded.
The Holy See Press Office confirmed that no medical bulletin would be released Friday evening due to the stability of his condition, with the next update expected on Saturday, March 8. Earlier in the day, officials noted that Pope had a restful night and woke up shortly after 8 a.m.
Despite his hospitalization, Pope Francis remains engaged with the faithful. On Thursday evening, he personally insisted on sending an audio message at the start of the Rosary in St. Peter’s Square, expressing gratitude for the prayers and messages of support received during his hospitalization.
The recitation of the Rosary continues in St. Peter’s Square, with the twelfth gathering scheduled for Friday at 9 p.m. local time. The prayer service will be led by Cardinal Lazzaro Heung-sik You, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Clergy.
