Russia voiced profound dismay on Tuesday over Israel’s renewed airstrikes on Gaza, denouncing any actions that result in civilian casualties.
According to Palestinian health officials, over 400 people have lost their lives in the assault, which the Israeli military described as a "preemptive offensive" targeting Hamas militants still holding 59 Israeli hostages.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed "deep regret" over the escalation and urged both sides to return to negotiations. "As history demonstrates, securing the release of hostages through force is not viable. Russia firmly condemns any measures that cause civilian deaths and the destruction of vital infrastructure," it said.
The Kremlin also voiced alarm over the rising violence. "We are particularly troubled by reports of significant civilian casualties," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated. "We are closely following developments and hope for a return to peace."
