As he continues his recovery from bilateral pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, Pope Francis has released his message for the 62nd World Day of Prayer for Vocations, which will be observed on May 11.
Titled “Pilgrims of Hope: The Gift of Life,” the message emphasizes that every vocation—whether to the priesthood, religious life, or the laity—serves as a testament to God’s hope for humanity.
The Pope acknowledged that many young people today grapple with uncertainty about their future, facing insecurity, identity struggles, social injustices, and widespread indifference. Yet, he reassured them that God never abandons His people in moments of doubt.
“The Lord, who knows our hearts, wants us to understand that we are loved, called, and sent forth as pilgrims of hope,” he said.
Encouraging young people to take inspiration from the saints, Pope Francis reminded them that they are not the future, but the ‘now’ of God. He urged them to see their vocational journey not as a path of self-promotion but as a call to love and serve others.
At key crossroads in life, God calls individuals to make decisive choices—whether in marriage, religious life, or priesthood. “Every vocation is rooted in hope and trust in God’s providence,” he explained. “It flourishes through faithfulness to the Gospel, nurtured by prayer, discernment, and acts of service.”
The Pope urged young people to carve out moments of silence and prayer in the midst of life’s constant noise, allowing them to hear God’s voice and embrace His vision for their lives.
“It takes courage,” he noted, “to step back, pray, and open our hearts to God’s dreams for us.”
He further highlighted that every vocation is ultimately an expression of our greater Christian calling—to be Christ’s presence in the world, bringing light and comfort to those who need it most.
Addressing pastoral ministers and vocation directors, Pope Francis encouraged them to patiently guide young people, offering respectful listening and wise counsel.
“A vocation is never meant to be hidden away like a private treasure,” he said. “It grows and is strengthened within a faith-filled, loving, and hopeful community.”
Concluding his message, the Pope called upon all Christians to pray for vocations, trusting that the Holy Spirit will stir the hearts of young people to embrace their calling.
“Let us never grow weary of asking the Lord to send new laborers for His harvest,” he urged. “May we continue walking as pilgrims of hope, following the path of the Gospel!”
