India's Defence Acquisition Council granted preliminary approval on Thursday for procuring weaponry and equipment valued at over 540 billion rupees ($6.26 billion) to strengthen its armed forces, according to the defence ministry.
The sanctioned acquisitions encompass upgraded engines for the Indian Army’s Russian-origin T-90 battle tanks, additional anti-submarine torpedoes for the Navy, and airborne early warning and control aircraft systems for the Air Force.
Additionally, the council endorsed new guidelines aimed at streamlining the arms procurement process, making it swifter, more effective, and more efficient.
