On Thursday night, the strategic Black Sea port city of Odesa faced one of its most severe drone attacks since the onset of the conflict, coinciding with the visit of Czech President Petr Pavel. The assault resulted in injuries to three teenagers and ignited multiple fires across the city.

President Pavel, a steadfast supporter of Ukraine, was in Odesa for discussions with regional officials when the attack unfolded. Governor Oleh Kiper highlighted the timing, stating, "Significantly, it was during our meeting that the enemy once again massively attacked the Odesa region."

The drones targeted various parts of Odesa, causing extensive damage to infrastructure, residential buildings, and commercial establishments. One notable incident involved a car repair shop where approximately 25 vehicles were set ablaze. The owner, identified as Inna, expressed her devastation: "We could not do anything. We were just standing and watching as everything was on fire. I am in total shock."

Military analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko observed that Russia employed new tactics in this assault. The drones descended from higher altitudes at increased speeds, making them more challenging for Ukraine's air defenses to intercept. Kovalenko described the attack as one of the "most massive" on Odesa since the conflict began, labeling it as "intimidation" and "terror against the civilian population."

In a broader context, both Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of attacking a major Russian gas facility in the Kursk region. This incident underscores the escalating tensions and the complexities involved in reaching a ceasefire agreement. The United States is actively advocating for a partial ceasefire to prevent further attacks on energy infrastructure. Delegations from Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S. are scheduled to meet in Saudi Arabia to negotiate these terms.

Overnight, Russia launched a total of 214 drones targeting various regions in Ukraine. The Ukrainian air force reported that they successfully downed 114 drones, while another 81 were suppressed through electronic warfare measures.
