In a city where space is a luxury and silence a rare commodity, Mumbai has quietly unveiled a sanctuary in the sky—the Elevated Nature Trail at Malabar Hill. This serene escape, the first of its kind in the city, offers Mumbaikars an opportunity to step above the daily hustle, walk through tree canopies, and bask in tranquility, high above the chaos.
Stretching across 700 meters, this wooden skywalk winds its way through the lush, verdant forests of Malabar Hill and culminates in a breathtaking view of the Arabian Sea. Drawing inspiration from the treetop trails of Singapore, the elevated nature trail introduces a quiet revolution, blending urban life with nature in a way never seen before in Mumbai.
Developed over three years by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the project connects Kamala Nehru Park to the peaceful Doongerwadi woods, designed with minimal concrete to maintain the natural flow of water and wildlife. This thoughtful design ensures the preservation of the area’s ecosystem while offering city-dwellers a rare chance to reconnect with nature.
Along the path, visitors are treated to a variety of experiences: a dedicated birdwatching zone, a glass-bottom viewing deck, and an impressive array of over 100 native plant species such as Gulmohar, Almond, Jamun, and Banyan. The trail is a haven for birds, with sightings of kingfishers, bulbuls, and parakeets, along with the occasional appearance of a python or lizard, adding to the authenticity of the natural experience.
To maintain its peaceful aura, the Elevated Nature Trail has a visitor limit of 200 at a time, with one-hour time slots available for booking. Entry is priced at Rs 25 for locals and Rs 100 for foreign visitors, with the added condition that no food is allowed, ensuring the integrity of the ecosystem remains undisturbed.
Accessing the trail is convenient from Siri Road, located behind Kamala Nehru Park, and it’s open daily from 5 AM to 8 PM, with online booking available for easy entry.
For those seeking a quiet moment above the city’s constant buzz, whether in the shade of towering trees or listening to the sweet melodies of birdsong, this new nature trail offers a rare slice of green, elevated far above the typical Mumbai experience. It’s a sanctuary that feels as much about grounding as it is about rising above.
