KCYM Condemns Assault on Catholic Priests and Laity in Jabalpur

Mananthavady: The Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) has strongly denounced the violent attack on Catholic priests and laity in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, allegedly carried out by members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

Expressing outrage over the incident, KCYM Mananthavady Diocese President Bibin Pilapilli emphasized that it is unacceptable for individuals who were simply adhering to the guidance of Pope Francis, the head of the global Catholic Church, to be subjected to such brutality.

The attack reportedly took place when Catholic parishioners, participating in the Jubilee 2025 celebrations, were unlawfully detained and assaulted by Bajrang Dal activists while visiting churches. Despite police intervention, the violence persisted, highlighting a serious breach of law and order.

Among the victims were senior clergy members, including Jabalpur Vicar General Father Davis and Diocesan Procurator Father George T, who were physically assaulted while attempting to support the faithful.

The diocesan committee has vehemently condemned the incident and called upon the central government to implement stringent laws to prevent blatant violations of religious freedom. KCYM has further demanded that strict legal action be taken against those responsible and urged authorities to ensure immediate and effective measures for the protection of religious minorities.
