Anthony Edwards brushed off an ankle injury to drop 28 points—draining five of his ten shots from beyond the arc—as the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves rolled to a 105–90 victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night.
The All-Star guard gave the Wolves a brief scare late in the second quarter when he turned his ankle after landing on Nets coach Jordi Fernandez following a 3-point attempt. Edwards headed to the locker room but returned for the second half, where he scored 13 more to help seal the win.
With the playoff race heating up in the West, Minnesota (45–32) notched its fourth straight win and kept pace in a tight contest for the sixth seed alongside the Clippers, Warriors, and Grizzlies.
Rudy Gobert was a force inside, finishing with 21 points and 18 boards for a monster double-double. Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker chipped in with 13 points apiece, while Julius Randle added 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Nets (25–52), whose playoff hopes have long faded, saw their brief two-game winning streak snapped. Nic Claxton led Brooklyn with 18 points on a hyper-efficient 9-of-10 shooting night. Trendon Watford and Maxwell Lewis scored 11 and 10, respectively, while rookies Dariq Whitehead and Tosan Evbuomwan provided sparks off the bench with 17 and 13 points.
Brooklyn briefly led 7–3 before Minnesota answered with a 16–2 burst, led by Edwards and Gobert. The Nets answered with a 15–3 run of their own, but Gobert’s quick five-point flurry gave Minnesota a permanent lead. The Timberwolves closed the half on a high note, capped by a Mike Conley triple that made it 49–37 at the break.
The Nets clawed within seven multiple times in the third quarter and early fourth, getting as close as 77–71 with just over ten minutes left. But Minnesota slammed the door with an 8–0 run, putting the game out of reach and continuing their late-season surge.
