Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, will officiate the solemn rite confirming the passing of Pope Francis and the ceremonial placing of his body into the coffin on Monday evening.

In a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, the rite is scheduled for 8:00 PM local time at the chapel within the Casa Santa Marta residence in Vatican City.

Joining Cardinal Farrell will be Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, members of Pope Francis’ family, and top officials from the Vatican’s health directorate—Dr. Andrea Arcangeli and Dr. Luigi Carbone.

Matteo Bruni, Director of the Holy See Press Office, shared with reporters that the late Pontiff's body may be moved to St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday morning to allow the faithful to pay their respects.

“The transfer of the Holy Father’s remains to the Vatican Basilica for public veneration is expected on the morning of Wednesday, April 23, 2025,” Bruni stated, noting that final details would be confirmed after the first gathering of the Cardinals.

In light of the Pope's passing, the Vatican also announced the postponement of the canonization Mass for Blessed Carlo Acutis, originally slated for Divine Mercy Sunday on April 27.
