New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to arrive in Jammu and Kashmir today to personally visit Anantnag, where victims of the Pahalgam terror attack are receiving treatment. Gandhi, who had been on an official visit to the United States, cut short his tour and returned to Delhi earlier this morning in response to the tragic events.
His visit comes shortly after a high-level all-party meeting convened by the central government to assess the worsening security landscape and chart out a united strategy in response to the deadly strike.
The government has since implemented strong retaliatory measures against Pakistan, which it holds responsible for enabling cross-border terrorism. In a major geopolitical move, the Indus Waters Treaty of 1960 was revoked following a Cabinet Committee on Security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Home Minister Amit Shah and other top officials in attendance.
Rahul Gandhi had earlier pledged the full backing of the opposition to the government in any steps taken to combat terrorism in light of the attack. He emphasized that when national security is at stake, “there is no room for division.” All political factions have jointly condemned the act of terror and expressed solidarity with the victims.
