Speaking during his monthly Mann Ki Baat broadcast, Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced the collective grief and fury of the nation over the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. “The blood of every Indian boils with anguish at this tragedy. Our hearts ache for those who lost their loved ones,” he said, urging citizens to stay united through this dark hour.
The Prime Minister condemned the assault as an act of desperation and cowardice by the "masters of terror." He emphasized that Kashmir was on the cusp of a promising transformation — schools were thriving, developmental projects were progressing at an unprecedented pace, democracy was taking deep root, tourism was booming, and new opportunities were opening for young people. “This resurgence of peace and prosperity was intolerable to our enemies," he said.
The Prime Minister stressed that the carnage on April 22 had shaken every Indian, cutting across states and languages. "Every Indian’s soul cries out in rage seeing the images of the attack," he said, adding that the entire world stood with India in this fight.
Modi promised the bereaved families swift and uncompromising justice. “The conspirators behind this heinous act will face retribution like never before. Their sinister dreams of tearing Kashmir apart will be crushed,” he vowed.
He called upon the strength of India’s 140 crore citizens, highlighting that national unity is the strongest weapon against terror. "Our resolve must be stronger than ever. The world is witnessing a united India, speaking with one voice against the forces of destruction," he declared.
The brutal attack at Baisaran meadow saw 25 tourists and a local Kashmiri youth gunned down mercilessly, marking one of the deadliest terrorist strikes in Kashmir’s recent history.
Speaking later at a rally in Bihar, Prime Minister Modi reiterated that the attackers and their handlers would face unimaginable consequences. "We will hunt down every perpetrator. This assault wasn't just against innocent lives; it was an attack on the very soul of India," he proclaimed, pointing directly at Pakistan’s role in supporting terror activities.
Modi assured that India’s spirit would remain unbroken. "From Kargil to Kanyakumari, the nation stands in shared grief and outrage — be it a Bengali son, a Marathi daughter, a Kannada brother, or an Odia sister — their loss is India's loss," he said.
In response to the attack, India has initiated a series of strong diplomatic measures against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty talks and halting visa services for Pakistani nationals.
