In the wake of the deadly terrorist assault in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India initiated talks with the Taliban leadership. Indian envoy Anand Prakash met Taliban's Acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttahida Qadri, in Kabul to explore ways to enhance diplomatic and commercial cooperation between the two nations.

Anand Prakash, tasked with managing India's diplomatic affairs concerning Afghanistan, led the discussions in the Afghan capital. During the meeting, Amir Khan encouraged Indian investors to tap into Afghanistan’s growing investment potential. Recent months have seen notable momentum in strengthening ties between New Delhi and Kabul.

According to a Taliban Foreign Ministry spokesperson, the two sides exchanged views on recent events, including the Pahalgam terror incident, although specifics of their discussion were not publicly disclosed.

Key agenda points included expanding trade links, facilitating cargo movement, easing visa processes, and boosting political engagement. The Taliban minister stressed the need for smooth travel between the two countries, particularly for patients, students, and businesspeople seeking visas without bureaucratic hurdles.

The Taliban claimed that India’s representative reaffirmed New Delhi's commitment to building a closer partnership with Afghanistan, expressing interest in expanding collaboration, particularly in infrastructure projects. However, India has not officially commented on the meeting yet. Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry shared an image of the meeting on platform X.

In a separate development, the Taliban Foreign Ministry condemned the April 22 attack on tourists in Pahalgam, offering condolences to the victims' families and warning that such violence undermines regional stability and national security.
