In a significant escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Army has issued a strong warning to Pakistan over repeated ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border. This development follows a hotline conversation between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries on Tuesday, aimed at addressing the unprovoked breaches by the Pakistan Army.
Initially confined to the LoC, the ceasefire violations extended to the International Border late last night, with Pakistani forces opening fire in the Pargwal sector of Jammu. The Indian Army responded swiftly, deploying additional Border Security Force (BSF) personnel to the affected areas.
These incidents come in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 Indian tourists and one Nepalese citizen. The attack, claimed by a group called the Kashmir Resistance, has been attributed by India to Pakistan-backed elements, a charge Islamabad denies.
In anticipation of potential Indian military action, Pakistan has reportedly placed its army and navy on high alert. The Pakistan Air Force has also reduced its flying operations by over 50%, limiting activity to essential missions to avoid confusion in the airspace. A Pakistani minister has indicated expectations of an Indian attack within the next 24 to 36 hours.
The situation remains tense, with both nations on high alert. The international community, including the United Nations and the United States, has called for de-escalation and restraint to prevent further deterioration of relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
