In a dramatic turn of events, just hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled inauguration of the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Thiruvananthapuram, a bomb threat has heightened security concerns. Authorities received an anonymous message, believed to be a hoax, prompting immediate deployment of bomb squads and intensified security measures in the area.
The Prime Minister, arriving from Andhra Pradesh, is set to reach the capital by evening and will proceed to Vizhinjam by helicopter the following morning. The commissioning ceremony, expected to last approximately 90 minutes, will witness the presence of several dignitaries, including Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani.
This incident follows a series of security concerns during the Prime Minister's visits to Kerala. Previously, a Kochi resident was arrested for sending a hoax suicide bomb threat letter, aiming to implicate another individual. Additionally, four individuals were apprehended near the Vizhinjam port for attempting to manufacture country bombs, raising alarms about potential threats in the vicinity.
In response to these incidents, security agencies have conducted multiple trial runs and implemented strict traffic regulations in and around the capital to ensure the safety of the Prime Minister and other attendees. The Special Protection Group (SPG) and state police are on high alert, with over 2,000 personnel deployed to manage the event's security.
Despite the challenges, the inauguration of the Vizhinjam International Seaport marks a significant milestone for Kerala's maritime infrastructure, symbolizing progress and development in the region.
