"Stay Vigilant, Not Provocative": Amit Shah Urges Border States to Counter Misinformation and Maintain Readiness

In the wake of India's targeted missile operations across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has urged states along the nation's borders to remain highly vigilant and prepared to handle any unforeseen developments. Stressing the importance of unity and clear communication, Shah also called on regional authorities to confront anti-national narratives and curb the spread of fake news circulating online, according to official sources.

Chairing a high-level virtual meeting, Shah engaged with the Lieutenant Governors of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Chief Ministers from key border states including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and West Bengal, and a representative from Sikkim. The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that this discussion aimed to coordinate preparedness and response strategies in light of heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent Indian military operation.

The meeting came on the heels of Operation Sindoor, a precision military campaign that involved 24 missile strikes targeting terror networks at nine different sites. These strikes were a direct response to the brutal April 22 terror assault in Pahalgam, where 25 tourists and a local pony operator were fatally shot. The operation has been praised by both civilian leadership and military officials, with leaders present at the meeting commending the decisive action taken by the Modi government and the armed forces.

Shah highlighted how the country’s collective response to the tragedy and military operation has strengthened national unity and morale. He called upon state administrations to ensure uninterrupted delivery of key public services such as healthcare, emergency response, and the supply of essential goods.

Beyond logistical readiness, Shah placed special emphasis on the digital information space, urging state authorities to closely monitor and act against malicious content online. He warned of an influx of manipulated and misleading content, particularly from handles linked to Pakistan, that aims to distort facts about Operation Sindoor. These efforts, he said, must be tackled swiftly in coordination with central intelligence and cyber units.

Fact-checkers have already debunked many of the viral videos being circulated, revealing them to be unrelated, outdated, or digitally altered. In response, Shah advised activating civil defence teams, Home Guards, disaster response units, and the National Cadet Corps to support civil preparedness and public confidence.

By calling for measured alertness and coordinated communication, the Home Minister emphasized that while the country stands firm against external threats, it must also guard itself from the destabilizing effects of misinformation and propaganda within.
