A viral message circulating on social media platforms, particularly WhatsApp, claims that ATMs across India will be closed for 2–3 days due to a cyber-attack linked to escalating India-Pakistan tensions. The message also warns users against online transactions and mentions a video titled "Dance of the Hillary" as a potential threat.
However, the Press Information Bureau's (PIB) Fact Check unit has confirmed that this message is entirely false. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PIB Fact Check stated:
"A viral #WhatsApp message claims ATMs will be closed for 2–3 days. This Message is FAKE. ATMs will continue to operate as usual. Don't share unverified messages."
Furthermore, the message's claim about a video named "Dance of the Hillary" being a virus is a recycled hoax that has surfaced in various forms over the years. Cybersecurity experts have debunked such claims, emphasizing that no such video poses a threat to users' devices.
The government urges citizens to rely on official channels for information and to refrain from sharing unverified messages that can cause unnecessary panic. ATM services across the country are functioning normally, and there has been no official advisory suggesting any disruption.
