In a decisive move to combat the proliferation of misinformation surrounding Operation Sindoor, the Indian government has directed the removal of over 8,000 social media accounts accused of disseminating false narratives about the military operation. This action targets platforms including YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), and various online news outlets.
Among the entities affected are prominent Pakistani news channels such as Dawn News, Samaa TV, ARY News, and Geo News, which have been banned for spreading provocative and misleading content against India and its security agencies. Additionally, the X accounts of Pakistani journalists Hamid Mir and Najam Sethi have been blocked in India.
The Press Information Bureau's (PIB) Fact Check unit has been actively debunking false claims, including fabricated reports of Indian Air Force jets being shot down and counterfeit letters alleging failures in defense equipment. The PIB has urged citizens to report dubious content through their official channels.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has also instructed state governments to intensify surveillance of anti-national propaganda on digital platforms and take swift action against the spread of misinformation. This directive follows India's missile strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
As tensions between India and Pakistan escalate, the Indian government continues to monitor and counteract misinformation campaigns to maintain national security and public order.
